I rated this book a four out of five stars, it is really a three and a half but when I was asking myself if I should round up or down I discovered that it was saved by the second half of the book so I rounded up. The beginning of the book is slow and hard to get into but if you push on it does get better and manages to peak your curiosity enough that want to keep reading. When first meeting the characters I found that I didn't much like the two main characters, they were both whiny and annoying and way to wrapped up in themselves. At one point I found myself wanting to knock both their heads together and telling them to get over themselves to see if that might knock a few brain cells into place. I actually found myself liking the bad guy a lot more and hoping he would win just so that two mains would be put out of my misery. Then things happened and both of the main characters became a hell of a lot more likable. At the same time the story picked up becoming something that could hold onto your attention and make you more curious about what was going to happen to everyone. It is well written if occasionally a bit wordy and over descriptive. The dogs in this story are just absolutely amazing and I would love to have one. The end did prod at my emotions enough that I want to know what will happen in the next book. All in all it is worth making the effort to read.
